After a long day of hard work, a laborer was riding his bicycle home along a mountain road. As he made his way through the quiet evening, he noticed a red car parked on the side of the road.
Standing beside the car was an elderly woman, looking worried and helpless. She watched the passing vehicles, hoping someone would stop and offer assistance. Unfortunately, no one seemed willing to help. 😥
The laborer got off his bicycle and politely asked,
“Ma’am, is there anything I can do to help you?”
Seeing his worn-out clothes and tired appearance, the woman felt a little uncertain at first. Sensing her hesitation, the man smiled and said,
“Please sit inside your car. It’s cold outside. Let me see if I can fix the tire.”
The woman returned to her car and watched through the window as the man worked tirelessly. After considerable effort, he finally managed to repair the tire.
At that moment, she realized that without his help, she could have been stranded on that lonely mountain road for hours, perhaps facing even greater difficulties.
Grateful for his kindness, she took out a 1,000-taka note and offered it to him.
“What you’ve done for me today is priceless,” she said. “Still, please accept this as a small token of my appreciation.”
The laborer gently smiled and replied,
“Ma’am, I cannot accept money for helping someone. But if you truly want to repay me, then the next time you see someone in need, please help them. And when you do, remember me.”
With that, he rode away on his bicycle and continued his journey home.
The elderly woman also resumed her trip. A little later, she stopped at a restaurant to have a meal.
There, she noticed a pregnant waitress serving customers. Suddenly, a glass dish slipped from the young woman’s hands and shattered on the floor.
The restaurant manager rushed over and began scolding her harshly. He informed her that the cost of the broken item would be deducted from her salary.
The elderly woman felt her heart sink.
“How desperate must someone be,” she thought, “to work in such a condition during pregnancy?”
After finishing her meal and paying the bill, she quietly called the young woman over and slipped 5,000 taka into her hand before leaving.
Instantly, the laborer’s words echoed in her mind:
“The next time you see someone in need, help them. And remember me.”
Overwhelmed with gratitude, the young woman hurried home after work.
When she arrived, she found her husband preparing dinner.
Excitedly, she handed him the money and told him everything that had happened.
After listening carefully, her husband suddenly asked,
“Was the woman driving a red car?”
Surprised, she replied,
“Yes! But how did you know?”
The man smiled softly and looked toward the sky. Silently thanking God, he said,
“Earlier today, on my way home, I helped an elderly woman whose red car had a flat tire.”
Then he turned to his wife and continued,
“Never forget that God sees every good deed and every bad one. The kindness we show to others always finds its way back to us. It may come through a different path or through someone else’s hands, but it always returns.”
The Lesson
Good deeds never go to waste.
When we help others without expecting anything in return, our kindness creates a ripple effect that touches lives in ways we may never imagine. Sooner or later, that goodness comes back to us, often when we need it most.
